1909 Locomobile Model 40 Type I One of the Best Built Cars in America. By the late 1900's the Locomobile Company had forged a name for itself. They had won the prestigious international Vanderbilt Cup race in 1908 and were renowned for their speedy luxury cars. In 1909 the Locomobile Company produced the Model 40, measuring 123-inches, displaying 471 cubic-inches with a T-Head. Coachwork design which was available included a Toy Tonneau, limousine, or a seven-passenger Touring car. The term Toy Tonneau refers to a 4 passenger coachwork of low profile and fitted to a sportier chassis.
